Sensex gains over 76 points in early trade

The standard Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex rose roughly 78 points in near the beginning trade on Thursday after Tata Consultancy Services and HCL Technologies posted encouraging wages.
In addition, a diverse movement in the worldwide markets also buoyed the trading emotion here.

Polling begins in Uttar Pradesh


Polling for 11 Lok sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh to decide fate of 150 candidates in the second phase started this morning on a peaceful note amidst elaborate security arrangements.
“The polling has started at 7 am on a peaceful note. Over 1.85 crore electorates will be exercising their franchise to choose their representatives from 150 candidates,” UP Chief Electoral officer Umesh Sinha said.
In this phase, polling is being held in Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Amroha, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Nagina, Aonla and Kheri.
The prominent candidates who are in fray includes Maneka Gandhi, Santosh Gangwar, Saleem Sherwani and Begum Noor Bano.
Of the 11 seats, four were held by SP, three by Congress and two by BJP during the last Lok Sabha polls in 2009.
BJP leader Maneka Gandhi, who had won from Aonla seat last time, is contesting from her stronghold Pilibhit.
The nephew of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav, is in the fray to retain Badaun Lok Sabha seat.
Former MP Saleem Iqbal Sherwani is contesting from Aonla as Congress nominee.
Congress has fielded Begum Noor Bano from Moradabad seat, from where former cricketer Mohd Azharuddin was elected last time.
Bano’s son Nawab Kazim Ali too is testing his luck from Rampur seat. Former minister Santosh Gangwar is contesting on BJP ticket from Bareilly.
Shafeequrehman Barq, who won the last Lok Sabha poll from Sambhal on BSP ticket, is fighting on SP ticket this time.
Of the total 18,975 polling centres, 3,206 have been identified as sensitive.

Lok Sabha elections 2014: All the dates that you need to know


The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the Lok Sabha elections 2014. The elections will begin on 7 April and end on 12 May.
 16 May has been set as the counting date and the EC will complete counting on this day.
With the final dates being announced, the model code of conduct has also come into being in the country from today itself. The elections will be held in 9 phases.
 Below are the dates and the number of constituences in each state that will go to poll on a particular day:
 7 April: 2 states will have polls in 6 constituencies. The states are Assam, Tripura.
 9 April: 5 states will have polls in 7 Parliamentary constituencies. The states are Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.

Share brokers said that with a strong GDP forecast, rupee strengthening and increase being under control, markets could be in the middle of big rallies in the next couple of months.
